Winegrower and Proprietor
Vineyard and Winery Owner and Proprietor
Vineyard proprietors Chris Buchanan began his love for wine in New Orleans while attending college at Tulane University. Several years later, he packed up and moved across the country to Humboldt County, California, when given the opportunity to develop raw land into a hillside vineyard and off-grid winery. For more information about development of the land and estate vineyard, please visit our Estate Vineyard page.
Growing up in Memphis, TN, Chris never even considered winemaking as a profession. After he earned a B.S. degree in mathematical economics from Tulane and then studied winemaking and viticulture through the University of California, Davis, after moving to California. While developing the Terragena estate vineyard and property, Chris also worked with winemaker Derek Rohlffs of Bravium as a winemaker and bookkeeper in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Chris is actively involved in all aspects of the winery and vineyard, and when no guests are at the vineyard house he can frequently be found staying on site and working in the winery and vineyard. Over the past few years, he visited Hawaii (Maui and Kauai), Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, the West Coast of the US (Oregon and Washington), and Victoria BC. While obviously tasting wine on the above trips, Chris also enjoys spending time hiking, cooking, wine-tasting, and spending time with his amazing son.
