Chris and Nickie
Vineyard and Winery Owners and Proprietors
Vineyard proprietors Chris and Nickie met in New Orleans when both were attending college at Tulane University. Several years later, they packed up and moved across the country to Humboldt County, California, when given the opportunity by Nickie’s parents to develop raw land into a hillside vineyard. For more information about development of the land and estate vineyard, please visit our Estate Vineyard page.
Chris earned a degree in mathematical economics from Tulane and then studied winemaking and viticulture through the University of California, Davis, after moving to California. While developing the Terragena estate vineyard and property, Chris also worked with winemaker Derek Rohlffs of Bravium as a winemaker and bookkeeper in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2010, Nickie began working on a PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. She and Chris began splitting their time between the Terragena estate property and the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated in May of 2016 and currently works with children as a school psychologist in the Bay Area.
During the summer and Nickie’s breaks from school, Chris and Nickie spend most of their time at the Terragena estate property, and they also enjoy traveling. Over the past few years, they have visited Hawaii (Maui and Kauai), Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, the West Coast of the US (Oregon and Washington), and Victoria BC. They also spend time hiking, cooking, wine-tasting, and visiting with family and friends. For more information on Chris and Nickie’s adventures, check our our fireside stories.
